🚆 Indian Railways Fare Hike From July 1, 2025: What You Need to Know

In a major update for travelers, Indian Railways has officially implemented a fare revision from July 1, 2025—its first hike since January 2020. The change aims to offset rising operational costs while keeping travel affordable for the common man.


🔍 What Has Changed?

🚫 Who is Not Affected?

  • Suburban single-journey and season tickets remain unchanged.

  • Tickets booked before July 1 are not affected by the new fare.

  • There’s no change in GST, superfast surcharges, reservation charges, or rounding-off rules.


💼 Why the Hike?

According to the Railway Ministry:

"The fare revision is minimal and calibrated. It will help generate an additional ₹1,100 to ₹1,450 crore annually."

This move is intended to improve infrastructure, upgrade amenities, and meet rising energy and fuel costs.


⚠️ Other Key Changes (From July 1)

1. Tatkal Booking Rules Updated

  • Aadhaar verification + OTP now mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets.

2. Reservation Chart Timing Revised

  • Charts will now be prepared 8 hours before train departure (previously 4 hours).
